I seem to remember him getting some kind of experimental nerve graft... where nerves were re-routed around the fused vertebrae and he regained some partial nerve usage in his hands or something.

Okay, I'm having trouble with the mice growing a new heart thing. What are they living off of until a new heart grow? Are they putting them on a heart/lung machine?

hearts can be piggy backed. In medic class I was the only one that figured out an ekg where the dude had two hearts during a transplant, therefore had a really wierd ekg. sometimes they piggy back hearts while the other gets stronger. so my guess is they would be able to do that while the other develops. Hell, I'd take two hearts to make up for one damaged
